Junior 3 – division sums

We have started doing division sums with two digits and a remainder outside.

E.G: 47 ÷ 2 = 23 r 1

Method:  the 4 is divided by 2 (say the table and write what you get on your fingers i.e 2), then we divide the 7 by 2 ( say the table of the 2 till you get to the multiple bigger than 7 i.e 8).  You now have to go back one from what you get on your fingers i.e on your fingers you have 4, go back one and you get 3 and write it down.  You then count up from the multiple i.e 3×2 = 6 up to 7 which is 1 difference.  This is written down as a remainder (r).
